Hoping for the Year of the Water Snake to Slither in with Wisdom, Intuition and Refinement
MAHE, FEBRUARY 2013 – A grand Chinese New Year dinner was prepared by Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino’s dexterous chefs for the Chinese community of Seychelles where they were also being treated to one of the oldest traditional dance in the Chinese culture – Lion Dance. On the first day of this auspicious occasion, these guests had gathered at the resort to commemorate the Lunar New Year, marking the beginning of the snake year in the Chinese calendar.
Among its distinguished guests present were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister of Employment and Human Resource Development, Idith Alexander and the Chinese Ambassador of Seychelles, Shi Zhong Jun along with his spouse, Liu Jian. Meriton expressed his sincere gratitude by thanking the management of the resort for hosting the grand dinner event which brought together the Seychellois-Chinese Community.
Ken Choo, General Manager of the resort thanked Ambassador Shi for his continuous efforts in upholding the Chinese culture in Seychelles. The tradition of giving ‘ang pow’ or also known as red packets was seen as Choo presented them to the Chinese Lion Dance troop after the spectacular performance. He also welcomed about 20 esteemed overseas Chinese press and local press members.
„Seychelles has witnessed more than a 100% increase in visitor arrivals from China in the year 2012 as compared to 2011 and wish to thank the Chinese Embassy for joining forces with us in the tourism trade to actively promote Seychelles in China”, said Choo.
Guests were extremely happy and satisfied with the tantalising Chinese cuisine offered by the resort and hope to be able to gather annually during this festive season as it is an excellent way for the Chinese community to reunite.
